description
Completed in April 2004, Isla Tortuga sits in the heart of the recently extended marina of Sotogrande.
Apartment 5-27 covers the front left hand side of the island block and overlooks the Sotogrande Yacht club and other villas on the opposite shore.
The ground floor terrace, which is south facing, has the benefit of adjoining a grassed area around the block - an ideal area for sun bathing or just sitting out.
The terrace is approximateley 8m from the water's edge so may not be suitable for toddlers unable to swim.
Isla Tortuga has been constructed to the highest standards with climate control Air conditioing, marble flooring and all other facilities you would expect from such a prestigious development.
Why did we buy this aparment?
Fantastic waterside setting
Close to the beach, tennis, golf, sailing and other sporting activities
Easy walk to bars and restaurants yet far enough away not to be disturbed
Good security - both in the rersort and on the island
No need to drive - most things are within walking distance
Ideal location for teenagers having plenty to do with some nightlife but not too much for Mum and Dad to have sleepless nights over.
The owner has a 20' waterski boat moored in front of the apartment which may be available for charter - please enquire for further details.
Sotogrande is located under one hour’s drive from Malaga airport and just twenty minutes from Gibraltar both of which offer low cost air travel from most Uk airports.
Sotogrande is a luxurious residential estate of some 4500 acres. It is a resort favoured particularly by those seeking peace and quiet and even a bit of unspoilt Spain on the coast!
It is perhaps best known for its numerous golf courses which attract enthusiasts from the world over and international competitions. Nearby Valderama has played host to the prestigious Ryder cup and other international golf tournaments. On, or in the immediate vicinity of, the estate are half a dozen superb golf courses to enjoy and countless others a short drive away.
But, not only the golfer is catered for.... activities on offer include; polo; horse riding with hacks along the beach; sailing; tennis, both traditional and paddle. For the swimmer, there are beaches and both internal and external swimming pools; for the walker, miles of beach and countryside to explore; for the ornithologist, a nature reserve which hosts migratory birds as well as other permanent residents; for the bridge player, an active bridge community...
For the more energetic - Europe's capital for windsurfing and kite boarding, Tarifa is only 45 minutes drive. Here you can book lessons and hire equipment for both sports.Deep sea fishing can be arranged from Sotogrande Marina as can the hire of sailing yachts (several boats available from 32 - 46') from the yacht club opposite.
There are tennis courts and a member`s beach club (daily membership available) with swimming pools, bar and restaurant within one minute`s walk of the apartment.
The sailing club which has kayak, wind-surfing and dinghy rental and lessons, is situated on the sheltered waters of the river. Further along the beach is the hobie-cat centre where boats may be hired and lessons arranged.
Sotogrande not only has a great deal to offer in its own right, it is a well located base from which to explore the region and to which to return after a day tour to relax and unwind, perhaps in the spa....
To the east lies Marbella, Puerto Banus and all that one associates with the Costa del Sol, now only a 25 minute drive on the autopista and, a further 30 minutes away Malaga, the birthplace of Pablo Picasso. In land, the town of Ronda with the oldest bull ring in Spain is an easy day trip as are the famed white villages of Andalusia. For the more adventurous, other day trips might include a drive to Tarifa, the most southerly town in Europe, for lunch at the Hurricane hotel beach bar and an exploration of the Atlantic coast line; a visit to Cadiz or to Jerez, home of sherry and the Spanish riding school or even Granada , Seville and Cordoba although less rushed visits to these last three towns would benefit from a night or two away from the sun deck back home in Sotogrande..... but if the glitz of Marbella or the the rich culture of Spain are not enough, perhaps a complete change is called for with a day trip on the high speed ferry from Algeciras or Tarifa to Tangiers in Morocco to visit the Medina and market or perhaps even the American Delegation.... or, for a bit of England in the sun, why not a pint in Gibraltar, an easy commute?
There can be few holiday destinations in Europe that can offer such a rich diversity for the visitor and perhaps it is precisely for this reason that Sotogrande continues to attract increasing numbers of residents, both permanent and transitory holiday visitors to this corner of the Mediterranean.
